This Week’s Events

Hi Everyone,

I’m going to continue with the weekly updates as we progress through our busy performance weeks. I’ll try to keep them short!

Concert Tickets
Students who pre-ordered tickets can pick them up from me at any time, or they can be picked up at the door. Tickets are still available for November 28 and 29 (Family of Schools concerts, $10 each) and December 5 (Eastview Christmas concert, $7 each). From this point, tickets will be given out at the time of purchase. Tickets will also be sold at the door for all concerts.

Wednesday, November 28

  • Last chance to submit Sainte Marie forms and $10 if you want to go on the trip. Please also bring in any other outstanding permission forms.
  • Rehearsal from 2:45-4:15pm (note slightly later end time)
  • For those who ordered dinner, it will be served at 5:30pm
  • Arrive in uniform at 6:30pm in the vocal room, ready to warm-up
  • Concert begins at 7:00pm, and is expected to end between 8:15 and 8:45pm

Thursday, November 29

  • Arrive in uniform at 6:30pm in the vocal room, ready to warm-up
  • Concert begins at 7:00pm, and is expected to end between 8:15 and 8:45pm

Friday, November 30 (for those going to Sainte Marie only)

 Looking ahead…

  • Wednesday, December 5 – Choir members will meet in the vocal room at the beginning of the school day, and will be bused to Collier Street United Church for our rehearsal. Chamber choir members will return to the school by 11:15, and everyone else will be back by 10:25.  In the evening, choir members must arrive by 6:45pm in uniform, and the concert begins at 7:30pm. There will be no after school rehearsal on this day.
  • I am (somewhat desperately now!) looking for a few more students who can sing some Christmas music at an event at Horsehoe Valley on Friday, December 7. It is the same night as Eastview’s semi-formal. Please let me know if interested.

This Week’s Reminders

A few things to note before things get busy next week:

  • Important Rehearsal this Week – The last one on our own before all our Christmas performances. Please be there!
  • Sudbury/Parry Sound Trip – Thank you for those who met last Friday’s deadline. I will continue to accept forms/payment this week, however we are very close to filling one bus, and we would only get a second bus if there are enough people to make it cost effective.
  • Forms due this Wednesday – This Wednesday is the due date for the package of forms sent home for all the Christmas performances. For the dinner being offered on November 28, this deadline is firm. I will continue to accept other items, such as ticket purchases, for as long as there is availability. I’d appreciate all permission forms in by the end of the week, particularly for Sainte Marie.
  • For your planning – Family of Schools Concerts – Here is the sequence of events for the Family of Schools concerts on November 28 and 29:
    • 6:30pm – Arrive
    • 6:45pm – Warm-up in room 204
    • 7:00pm – Concert begins – If there is room in the cafe, please attend the first part of the concert on one of the two nights
    • 7:30pm – Be in the cafe or in the front foyer, ready to go on stage. Chamber Choir will be on sometime between around 7:40 to 8:10, followed by the Concert Choir.
    • 8:15-8:45pm – Concert is expected to end in this time window
    • If you cannot make it in time for warm-up: Please do your own warm-up, and be ready to go on by 7:30pm

Three Quick Things

  1. Grade nine students are not expected to be at this Wednesday’s rehearsal due to Take Our Kid to Work Day, yet they are still welcome!
  2. Reminder – this Thursday, for the first half of period 5, we are rehearsing in the cafeteria with the feeder schools for our Family of Schools concert. All choir members are encouraged, but not required, to attend. Keeping up in classes comes first! Those who come will be signed out of class.
  3. Another reminder – Permission forms and the first payment for the Sudbury/Parry Sound trip are due this Friday. If you’d like to participate but need extra time to get these things in, please let me know.

Wonderful performance for Remembrance Day on Friday, with lots of great feedback! For upcoming performances, please be reminded that you should be wearing dress pants (or long black skirt) and dress shoes.

Thanks, and have a great week!

Upcoming Events – November and December

Hi Everyone,

We have a lot on the go in the next few weeks, so I’m going to provide a summary of everything you need to know:

  • Registration forms and $50 fee are now due. Please submit ASAP if still outstanding.
  • November 9 – Remembrance Day Assembly – Please see below for details.
  • November 15 – First half of period 5 – rehearsal in cafeteria with elementary schools. Students/parents/teachers to use discretion as to whether this class time can afford to be missed.
  • November 16 – Sudbury trip forms and first payment are due.
  • Seasonal Performances starting late November – All details you need to know are posted at http://www.eastviewmusic.ca/xmas2018. The document is rather lengthy, and doesn’t need to be read in detail until the performances approach. Permission forms and paperwork will be distributed to students this week (also available as PDF here), and will be due by November 21.

I realize we are asking for a lot of money all at once, and I urge you to contact me if you require these payments to be spread out further or if you’d like to inquire about some of this being subsidized. While we need to balance the books, we’d like to make every effort to ensure students are not excluded from opportunities for financial reasons.

Remembrance Day
On Thursday November 8, we will be having a rehearsal in preparation for this during period 5. Students are asked to go to their period 5 classes first for attendance. While the rehearsal is important, students/parents/teachers are to use discretion as to whether this class time can afford to be missed.

On Friday, November 9, students should go directly to the cafeteria when they arrive at school and will be signed out of periods 1 and 2. Unfortunately, there have been some delays with our supplier for getting the new performance shirts in. While they are supposed to be here in time to distribute on November 8, if by chance you don’t get yours by Friday, please wear another black or dark shirt. Something a little more formal would be better, but just do the best you can with what you have in your closet.  Please also wear a poppy if you have one. We have limited extras to give out.

Thanks, and please let me know if you have any questions or concerns.
