Attendance Policy

Students are expected to attend all rehearsals and performances, except due illness or other extenuating circumstances.  It is acceptable to miss 2-3 rehearsal per year only for any of the following reasons:

  • Appointments that cannot be rescheduled
  • Work schedule conflicts
  • Unable to find a ride home
  • Too much homework (please plan your homework time accordingly!)

If you are going to miss a rehearsal, please do one of the following before the rehearsal:

  • Sign-out in the binder in the vocal room entrance way
  • Let your grade rep know
  • Email or text Mr. Stewart

If you need to miss a performance or will need to miss extensive rehearsal time for any reason, please speak to Mr. Stewart as early as possible (at least six weeks prior to a performance being missed). If you want to participate in a sport or another club that conflicts with choir, we can usually work something out, but please discuss this with me.

If you miss three or more rehearsals leading up to a performance, one of the following outcomes will occur at the discretion of the music director, depending on your specific circumstances (eg – why you missed, if you properly signed out, how well you know the music, how your presence or absence will affect the ensemble in general):

  • You may be permitted to perform in full
  • You may be permitted to perform only some of the music
  • You may be permitted to perform on the condition that you can show you know the music
  • You may be asked not to perform

Consistent absences from rehearsals or performances will result in removal from the ensemble.
